DESCRIPTION: Panuba Inn is located on the northern end of the village in Air Batang, fronting the beautiful Panuba Beach. Passenger boats from Mersing will make a stop here prior to the final landing point at Salang. Journey from Mersing will take slightly more than 1 hour.
There are four types of room available, namely Anggur, Belimbing, Durian and Super Durian. Interesting choice of names, I must say. Some of the rooms are directly facing the beautiful beach, while others are built slightly higher above ground on stilts, with commanding view of the ocean as well. No matter which room you choose, you will still get the ocean view.
FACILITIES: While the Anggur-type rooms are more basic, the Belimbing, Durian and Super Durian ones are equipped with air conditioners.
There is a PADI/NAUI/SSI dive centre here called Bali Hai (it is not exactly a rip-off because that famous South Pacific movie was indeed filmed here in Tioman!). For all your gastronomic needs, there is a restaurant in the resort, albeit a basic one serving regular local and Western food.
ATTRACTIONS: I think the Panuba Beach itself is beautiful, enough to take you the whole day of sun-worshipping. Otherwise, charter a boat to snorkel at Monkey Bay or Salang Reef South right next door. The resort claims to be just 30 minutes walking distance to the Tioman Marine Park Centre, but I did not try that.
For diving, ask the dive centre to bring you to either Pulau Chebeh or Malang Rock.
PRICING: Very affordable. The Belimbing room goes for RM68 per night, twin sharing, breakfast inclusive. Durian and Super Durian cost RM98 and RM130 per night, respectively.
For some reason, the resort imposes a minimum pax of 8 persons for its 3D/2N package (quite affordable too). But in any case, you can still survive with room-only package because you can still pay for your own food, and not many of us actually travel in the excess of 8 people.
