Throughout these years, Rawa Safaris Island Resort has grown into an international class resort in the idyllic private island of Rawa in Johor. I recalled back in 1998 that the resort was fairly basic, but it has since been renovated with additional facilities and lodging options.
Departure point is from the jetty in Mersing. Patrons to this resort can park their cars at the resort's sales office (as opposed to those heading to either Pulau Tioman, Pulau Besar, Pulau Tinggi, Pulau Tengah, Pulau Aur or Pulau Pemanggil will have to use the public parking space in Mersing). The resort will usually arrange for speed boats at the jetty, from which the journey takes slightly more than 30 minutes. I have also seen visitors purchasing their own tickets from the regular boat operators (such as Bluewater) that ply between Mersing and Pulau Tioman, with a requested stop at Pulau Rawa.
In total, the resort now has 72 rooms of varying standards and sizes. The units are built on either the hill side, or a few metres from the beach, or right fronting the ocean. Each room is equipped with air-conditioner and attached bathroom except the for Budget Room (6 units).
The breakdown of room types and the number of units: For the hill side, there are 6 Garden units, Long House (8 units), Studio (10 units), Hillside (20 units), Hillside Family Suite (2 units); for the beach side, there are 1 Beach Front unit, Semi Detach (2 units), Beach Suite (9 units), Beach View Suite (4 units); for the water front, there are 1 Coral Garden Suite unit, New Water Front (1 unit), Water Front (1 unit), Sea Breeze (1 unit).
The rooms are definitely well-appointed with timber strip floors, plush interior fittings equipped with large windows and modern amenities. There is one restaurant in the resort, at which I had quite a sumptuous seafood dinner during my visit.
You will be amazed by the beautiful beach of Rawa. The island is actually very small, hence only one beach is available here. The opposite side of the island consists of mainly near-vertical cliffs. Some snorkeling can be done on the beach, particularly on the both ends.
There is also a climbing trail somewhere behind the resort. The hike will last for about 10 minutes. At the top, even more spectacular views of the island can be enjoyed.
Twin-sharing 2D1N package in a Hillside standard room starts at RM280 per person, Hillside deluxe room (RM310), Beach Front room (RM370), Water Front room (RM430). The package will include return boat transfer from Mersing, breakfast, lunch and dinner. Note that the resort impose different rates during the so-called "Low" and "Peak" seasons, so it helps if you can check with them in advance.
My pricing might not be the most updated so kindly contact the resort for further details.
